KOST USA, Inc. and ADM Announce Successful Development of Biobased Glycol Products
KOST USA, Inc. and Archer Daniels Midland Company (NYSE: ADM) today announced the successful development of the BioChill® line of heat transfer fluids. ADM’s biobased propylene glycol can effectively replace the petroleum-derived propylene glycol traditionally used in heat transfer fluids. BioChill® products allow customers to meet all performance expectations while reducing their carbon footprint.
“KOST USA continues to develop the highest quality glycol solutions to deliver performance for our customers” said Tom Overdeck, chief executive officer of KOST USA. “Our superior capabilities and technical expertise combined with high-quality biobased propylene glycol from ADM has enabled the BioChill line of heat transfer fluids.”
BioChill® Heat Transfer Fluids are registered with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) BioPreferred® program, which promotes increased purchase and use of biobased products. The benefits of BioChill over petroleum-derived products include use of a sustainable product, significant reduction in greenhouse gas during production which lowers the carbon footprint, as well as potential LEED innovation credits. For example, a newly opened casino in northern Ohio is now utilizing this biobased fluid technology.
BioChill® Heat Transfer Fluids are specifically designed for use in:
• Gas Pipeline Heaters
• Gas Processing
• Natural Gas Storage
• Line and Bath Heaters
• HVAC Systems
• Pharmaceutical & Food Processing Plants
• Solar and Radiant Heating Systems
• Process Heating & Cooling
• Ice Rinks
• Playing Field Subsurface Heating
• Thermal Energy Storage
ADM was the first company in the world to make biobased propylene glycol that complies with both industrial and USP requirements. Available since March 2011, ADM’s propylene glycol has also earned the USDA Certified Biobased Product Label, indicating that the product contains 100-percent biobased content.
“ADM recognizes the increased demand for biobased products that reduce carbon footprint while maintaining superior performance,” said Paul Bloom, business director of ADM Industrial Chemicals. “Our collaboration with KOST USA is a great example of our commitment to delivering sustainable solutions by working with industry leaders.”
“KOST USA is committed to bringing products and services to market that meet today’s ongoing industry requirements,” said Overdeck. “We are dedicated to continuing future growth of biobased product solutions to satisfy all of the markets we serve.”
